The DUB-Swivels use tapered roller bearings in swivels up to 20 tons and spherical roller bearings in swivels 40 tons and larger.  Both these bearing types have the highest thrust load ratings available for the bearing diameters used in these swivels.  The spherical roller bearings offer less side load capacity and therefore the DCD design incorporates an additional ball or roller bearing adjacent to the spherical bearing to give extra side load support.  All DUB-Swivels utilize a tapered roller bearing to allow pushback at approximately 1/3 of the pullback rating.

Size is a limitation of both these bearings.  The smallest spherical bearings are over 5" diameter while the smallest tapered roller bearing is 1-5/8" diameter.

The majority of industrial applications requiring heavy duty thrust bearings would utilize either tapered or spherical roller bearings.

The DUB-Lite Swivels use angular contact bearings.  These are good thrust bearings but several bearings must be used in tandem in order to achieve reasonable load ratings.  There is usually a single angular contact bearing assembled in a reverse direction to allow for pushback loads, again at approximately 1/3 of the pullback rating.

The angular contact bearings have the advantage of size.   Smaller diameter swivels with similar capacity are possible with the use of these bearings.

All bearings used are either North American, European or Japanese in origin.
