Maintenance

Maintenance is critical to the total life of the swivel.   There are two very simple steps that a contractor should carry out after each use of the swivel:

  1. While the swivel is still in the drill string and while the drill is still rotating, use a hose to wash out the swivel, particularly in the split of the two swivel halves.  Dried up mud will almost certainly damage the seals.

  2. After the swivel is removed from the drill string and before storing, use a grease gun to pump a couple of squirts of grease.  The DUB-Swivel (00508 Series) should only take 1 or 2 pumps, while the DUB-Lite (00503 Series) should be flushed through with more like 5 or 6 pumps - this will ensure any dirt is forced clear of the seals.

In addition to the above, a simple 'feel' of the swivel will tell if the bearings are loose or slack, also the clevis pins should be checked for damage.

The DUB-Swivel should always be returned to the factory for service while the DUB-Lite can be field serviced with spare part kits available from the factory.

At no time should the pressure relief valve be removed from the DUB-Swivel.
