Pullback swivels are a necessary and very important part of every Directional Drilling operation. The saying that "any force is only as strong as the weakest link" is indeed true when considering the pullback.

click for larger imageThe swivel has to be able to stand up to not only the tensile forces caused by the pullback, but also the rotational forces and the side loads caused by certain conditions. For that, the bearings must be of a type suitable for absorbing both thrust and radial loads. The swivel must be able to prevent ingress of dirt and contaminants to the bearings which would cause premature failures. For this, the seals need to be of a type suitable to withstand mud, grime and anything else found underground.

Choosing the right swivel should be determined by the capacity of the machine, not just the load being pulled. A wise contractor should generally try to select a swivel with equal or greater capacity than the machine it will be used on.

DCD offers two grades of pullback swivels, the premier DUB-Swivel® the regular DUB-Lite® swivel. These swivels differ in the type of bearings and seals that are used, as well as the safety factor.

For the DUB-Swivel®, DCD offers several styles including Clevis to Box Thread (Type 1), Clevis to Clevis (Type 2), Clevis to Flange mount (Type 6) and Clevis to Pin thread (Type 7). Each of these types is designed around what we call our DUB-Swive® .

For the DUB-Liteâ swivel, DCD now offers the Clevis to Clevis (style 2) and the Clevis to Flange (style 6).

In addition, DCD offers the DUB-IN® , which is designed to act a replacement swivel for the original swivel fitted to OEM reamers.

The history of the DUB-Swivelâ

DUB-Swivels® have been available since the start of the Directional Drilling boom in 1994.  They have remained essentially unchanged and thousands have been sold.  Almost every drilling machine manufacturer has, at one time or another, offered them as standard equipment with their rigs.

There are several  attempted copies and alternate products on the market, some work very well and others do not.  None have the proven track record of the DUB-Swivel®.  DCD remains committed to producing a high quality, field proven product.

Servicing of the product is carried out at the factory and a new product warranty is applied to every serviced swivel.  DCD  applies  a rigorous quality standard to every swivel manufactured.  Measures, such as requiring material certificates for every piece of steel purchased, engineering approval of every material certificate, identifying numbers stamped on each component, quality verification for every swivel built, all contribute to ensuring the highest quality standard possible.

Customer satisfaction is a requirement for all DCD products, innovative thinking and dedication to quality is a requirement for every DCD employee.
